About this work
At summer's end, the lotus pond is left with dry pods and a few withered petals. People usually paint the lotus in full bloom; Tran Ha chose to paint it fading — for in decay there is a contemplative beauty that youth does not possess.
On pale silk the work is almost translucent, as fragile as the moment it records. It is a gentle reminder of impermanence — and of cherishing beauty just as it fades.
